Risiko Operasi di Akhir Pekan Lebih Tinggi

Jakarta – Penelitian terbaru mengungkap bahwa pasien yang menjalani operasi pada hari Jumat memiliki risiko komplikasi dan kematian yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan hari-hari lainnya.

Para peneliti menerbitkan penelitian ini dalam jurnal JAMA Network Open. Mereka melibatkan hampir 430.000 pasien di Ontario, Kanada, yang menjalani 25 prosedur bedah umum antara tahun 2007 hingga 2019.

Para peneliti menemukan bahwa risiko komplikasi, rawat inap ulang, hingga kematian meningkat sebesar 5 persen untuk pasien yang menjalani pembedahan menjelang akhir pekan. Risiko tersebut semakin tinggi pada operasi elektif.

Kenapa Operasi Hari Jumat Lebih Berisiko?

Menurut peneliti, faktor utama yang menyebabkan peningkatan risiko adalah penurunan jumlah tenaga medis yang bertugas di akhir pekan. Dokter, perawat, dan staf klinis lainnya mengalami penurunan jumlah secara drastis saat akhir pekan, sehingga mereka lebih sulit mendeteksi dan menangani komplikasi yang muncul dengan cepat.

“Kekurangan staf di akhir pekan dapat mengurangi kemampuan mendeteksi dan mengatasi komplikasi akut. Ini meningkatkan risiko komplikasi serius bagi pasien,” ujar Vatsala Mundra, peneliti klinis di Houston Methodist Urology.

Data Penelitian yang Mendukung Temuan Ini

Para peneliti di Belanda pada tahun 2015 mencatat bahwa operasi yang dilakukan pada hari Jumat meningkatkan risiko kematian pasien sebesar 20 persen dalam 30 hari pascaoperasi dibandingkan dengan operasi yang dilakukan pada hari Senin.

Selain itu, meta-analisis tahun 2018 yang melibatkan lebih dari 8 juta pasien di seluruh dunia menemukan bahwa operasi pada hari Jumat memiliki risiko kematian 24 persen lebih tinggi daripada Senin.

Mundra menegaskan bahwa sistem perawatan kesehatan harus memastikan pasien menerima perawatan terbaik kapan pun mereka menjalani operasi.
