Para peneliti mengukur kadar glikogen di sampel jaringan manusia. Mereka mendapati kadar glikogen tinggi pada pasien yang menderita adenokarsinoma paru-paru. Jenis kanker ini bertanggung jawab atas 40 persen kasus kanker paru-paru di dunia. Dalam penelitian pada tikus, peneliti menambah kadar glikogen dalam jaringan. Tim menggunakan teknik metabolomik spasial untuk menganalisis jaringan. Teknik tersebut memungkinkan identifikasi molekul kecil berdasarkan lokasi di jaringan. Para peneliti menggunakan platform analisis khusus untuk memperoleh hasil mendalam. Ahli biologi molekuler Ramon Sun menyatakan platform ini memberikan wawasan baru.
